WEEKLIES
TUESDAYS, 9pm - midnight
WEDNESDAYS, 8:30p-11:30p
Red Light
The Mad Alsacians
Come out and play with Blackout Betty, Miso Pretty, Lady Leche, Ali Kat, Cha Cha Chia, and your host Lady Mizzzz. Classy burlesque with a twist by the beautiful Del Monte Speakeasies.
Traditional 1930's-60's French music (Piaf, Gainsbroug, Trenet), jazz standards in the "hot club of France" style, fun gypsy sounds and a few latin selections.
THURSDAYS, 9-11:30pm
Julian Le Trio
FRIDAYS, 10p-1am
The Peter Smith Trio
Peter's piano playing and singing evokes that classic, straight-ahead vibe reminiscent of his native New York and so rarely experienced in Los Angeles. His music and musical approach with his trio is a perfect match for the classy yet whimsical Angel's supper club, which is itself a room seemingly plucked out of the narrow streets of Greenwich Village. Come claim Friday nights with us, and help us create a vibe that is our own. Linger for the second set and you will see some of LA's finest musicians emerge from the audience with their instruments and begin to play past the witching hour. Or perhaps one of the many vocalists whom Peter accompanies will come forward with a song that needs to be sung right then, right now. Won't you join us?
Come and enjoy the sound of great musicians that truly love to play with each other as they weave through originals and arrangements ranging from second line to hip hop. The trio believes strongly in moving on to the new while respecting the past and finding ways on and off the stage to give their show that extra pizazz. Every week will feature special guests so stop by and let us take you on a musical journey that even we can't predict.
UPCOMING CALENDAR DATES
Saturday, September 4th @ 9:30p : Amber Ojeda
To put it short and sweet Amber Ojeda is vintage with a modern flare. Equal parts talent and ambition, she has managed to precisely dial into the new digital world of music. Amber’s sultry and subtle vibrato is nostalgic of the 1930’s and 40’s. However it’s her effortless ability to lace Jazz & Neo-Soul with Hip Hop undertones that will have even the biggest skeptics bobbing their heads in approval. You can hear Amber’s music featured on Style networks “Dress my Nest” as well as countless podcasts and indie stations worldwide. www.amberojedamusic.com
Sunday, September 5th: "Word Hard Play Hard" Labor Day Celebration
We love a good reason to celebrate at Angel's; how about how hard you work? Join us labor day Sunday with live music by The Main Ingredient who fuse the elements of today's hip-hop with yesterday's r&b, jazz, and soul. Plus drink specials and delicious full menu served until late as usual!
Saturday, September 11th @ 9:30p : Billy White
Billy White’s debut recording, First Things First, is a glimpse into a musically omnivorous world reminiscent of a young Herbie Hancock. The San Francisco-born and New York-based 28-year old has already packed a panoply of experiences into his young career: a degree in ethnomusicology from UCLA, a stint with French jazz/hip-hoppers Heezbus while living in Paris, scoring films, and studying Gnawa trance music in Morocco. But First Things First is his crowning achievement so far reflecing White’s wide-ranging sensibilities: from modern pianists like Brad Mehldau, and Omar Sosa to rhythms inspired by the sound of subway trains passing overhead. www.billywhitemusic.com
Sunday, September 12th, 7-11pm : The Love-In f/ Quetzal Guerrero
Joshua Silverstein presents a monthly installment where he invites you to "eat, chill and love" to the tantalizing sounds of special guest performers and handpicked dj selections. This month's special guest is Quetzal Guerrero who bridges many styles of music from samba to soul. A seasoned musician and singer, Quetzal brings a unique flair whether it's on his electric blue violin or strumming on his jet black acoustic guitar!
Saturday, September 18th @ 10pm: The Park Presents
The Bay Area's most sought-after rhythm section brings their vibe to Santa Monica. The Park has traveled worldwide, backing Darondo, Alice Russell, Nino Moschella, Keelay&Zaire, Wallpaper, Happy Mayfield, Blitz the Ambassador and Jesse Boykins III, to name a few. They are well-known for their Wednesday Night Sessions - a residency that they’ve held down for more than 5 years that brings out the best local/national talent for showcasing and unscripted jamming. They will be joined by very special guests (hopefully you included!) for a fresh Friday night session at Angel's. www.theparkmusic.com
Sunday, September 19th : Darryl Holter CD Release @ 8pm
Holter´s new album takes us back to the exciting "West Bank" Minneapolis music scene of the 1960s and 1970s which spawned artists like Bob Dylan, Dave Ray, John Koerner, and Bonnie Raitt. His original songs, artfully crafted around catchy melodies and lyrics, reinterpret an important episode in American music. Darryl will be backed by some of the best players in the industry. Chris Spector of Midwest Record calls this album "A winner throughout." www.darrylholter.com
